Hello Defence aspirants,

This is Sumit Kumar. I was born in Bulandshahar district of UP and my upbringing took place in various places of India because my father is in the army. I did my 12th class from APS Ambala Cantt in the year 2019 with an overall percentage of 87.6% and cleared JEE mains. then I took admission to AIT Pune. Right from childhood, I have been an all-rounder and living in cantonment areas, surrounding good friends from military school, doing adventures sports like swimming, horse riding, being active in sports has motivated me towards armed forces and throughout all this, my father has been a role model to me.

Well, nobody is perfect. The same case was to me. I was lacking communication skills and confidence. My SSB journey has been of ups and downs which include 4 C/O, 2 S/O and 2 Recommendation. There is a saying “Success is not final; failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts” and I did the same, throughout this journey, I didn’t lose hope and kept myself motivated towards armed forces. Then under the guidance of my friend Kaushal Pal from military school Bangalore, I decided to enrol myself for SSB guidance to work upon my grey areas. And believe me, it was one of mine best decision to get admission in the GAPS.

Here, all the faculty members are very kind and supportive in nature. I spent a month around in the academy, during which I worked upon my communication skills by regular practising of lecturette and GD topics. Thanks to KP Sir, who is full of knowledge who help students in organising content and guide students to improve body language. Then for psychology, Deepak sir has helped me a lot. He is a very motivating personality and is a good mentor. In the academy, he has guided me for TAT, WAT, SRT. And they also conduct case study which help us in acknowledging our strength and weakness to work upon.I gave no. of mock interview and after every mock interview, they gave me honest feedback which helped me in the self-introspection part. Best part of the academy is the hardworking nature of the faculty over there. They give individual attention and help us in achieving our aim by motivational talks which bring josh, confidence and a sheer determination to work hard. I personally feel, GAPS don’t coach us, they prepare us for life.

Mentors always emphasized us to do good in life and be a good person. At the end, SSB is personality-based test and GAPS is doing a great job in inculcating good morals, ethos in students coming over there. Moreover, the environment of GAPS is very encouraging and they always say SSB is a game which you need to enjoy to win and I did the same and here are the results.

Tips from my side:

  1. Inculcate good hobbies and interest in life like Reading, Running, Meditation which keeps one physically, mentally and emotionally strong
  2. Always hold a positive attitude towards life. Whatever happens, happens for good.
  3. Be motivated and determined towards armed forces if you really feel it as your ultimate calling of life. i.e., donning the uniform and carrying responsibility on your shoulders.
  4. Be under some guidance like in my case friends, GAPS was there.

ALL THE BEST!
