  1. India, UK reaffirm FTA commitment at Strategic Dialogue
    • India and Britain reaffirmed their commitment to conclude a mutually beneficial free trade agreement at the annual UK-India Strategic Dialogue, as the two sides reflected on the "good progress" made on the 2030 Roadmap.
    • They have worked together in collaborating on the world's first malaria vaccine. This year's dialogue included ongoing commitment to negotiate a mutually beneficial free trade agreement and enhance defense cooperation.
  2. FDI norms in some sectors may be eased
    • India has recently relaxed Foreign Direct Investment norms in the space sector and there is a possibility of further FDI liberalization in certain other areas when the new government will come to power.
    • India has one of the most liberal FDI policies in the world and in fact, more liberal than many Southeast Asian countries, that the country is often compared with.

INTERNATIONAL

  1. South African govt. for speedy issuance of visas for Indian tourists
    • The South African government is evolving mechanisms for the speedy clearance of visa applications from India and working on a proposal for introducing e-visa for Indian tourists to the country.
    • The South African tourism ministry has taken up a proposal for a visa waiver for up to 90 days for passengers from both China and India with the president.
    • The facility shall be extended to passengers from both India and China who are also members of the BRICS alliance, Patricia de Lille (The Minister for Tourism) said.
  2. Russia orders seizure of Deutsche Bank, UniCredit assets
    • A Russian court had ruled that Deutsche Bank and UniCredit's assets in the country are to be seized, documents showed.
    • European banks have largely exited Russia after Moscow launched its offensive on Ukraine in 2022.
    • The decision was issued in answer to a request from RusKhimAlians, which was planning to build a major gas processing plant in cooperation with German company Linde, which pulled out of the project due to Russia's military campaign.
    • RusKhimAlians sued UniCredit and Deutsche bank- both guarantors of the project.
